Welcome to my first blog post for “Let’s run 4 fun.” This post is extra exciting for me because I’m writing it on March 18, 2012 and it’s my birthday. When I think about birthdays, I think about new beginnings a chance to improve or do something different. I’m a new blogger this is something different and I’m looking forward to improving.
My beginning as a new runner makes me laugh when I think about it. I finished dead last, but I was excited because I Finished! As a beginner or comeback runner, be kind to yourself, enjoy your new beginning, be excited about the finish and have fun!
I have observed two types of running behaviors especially for new runners:
- Over zealous wanting to be in the front of the running pack, i.e. run FAST or ready to run 10K NOW! (That was me – ouch!)
- I need some MOTIVATION to get me out of the door.
Hiring a coach can save you a lot of pain and frustration. There is one piece of advice I wish I would have adopted as a new runner and that is it’s okay to WALK before you get tired.
I challenge you to go out for a walk/run session tomorrow. Comment back and let me know how far you go, you can share the number of blocks, miles, length of time, whichever is the easiest, but better yet use the Training Log in the Resource area to keep track.
Have a Fun Run!
Congratulations Roz on your first blog post! Folks learning to run to have fun and stay fit, will be blessed to have found your blog AND your expertise in this area!
You raise some great points, Roz – running is a great exercise, but having a coach can help you to work within your capacity, pushing yourself but not to excess. Enjoy your running!
